Prism provided practical advice and counselling on the sales process and procedures, ensuring we never felt alone or without the necessary experience to step through the sale. Just because I understood how to run a complex company, with a subsidiary in Sri Lanka, in the demanding world of IT, that did not provide the experience of selling a company. The Leisure Marine industry is a sector with revenues approaching £3bn in the UK alone and employs over 32,000 people, with the majority being Small and Medium size Enterprises – SMEs (Source: BMF).
The level of business acquisition activity in the sector fell off during the recession following the high profile private equity acquisitions of 2007/8 (e.g. Princess Yachts and Oyster Marine).
There have been some tough times in the Marine sector since then, though there are signs that the market has bottomed out and there seems to be an increasing interest in acquisitions.
