Sell for More!

Insights by Peter Watson.

We are delighted to be joined on our in-person seminar next month by Karthik Dasari, Founder of Tern Capital, a private equity business investing in B2B software companies. Karthik has a wealth of experience in private equity investing – and acquired one of Prism’s businesses a couple of years ago. To find out what PE value and why – come along to the seminar on 18th June in London. Also speaking will be the past owner of an IT services business, a very experienced corporate lawyer and, of course, me and others from the Prism team. Find out the state of the market, how to maximise value – and equally important, where not to expend energy. Join us afterwards for lunch – all on a strictly confidential basis.

I recently asked an investment professional where the smart money was going. “Private Equity” was his answer! Sadly, many of the funds open to the ultra-rich are just not accessible to the general public, hence the number of entrepreneurs seeking to start their own groups. There has similarly been a rise in the number of ‘buy and hold’ investors in software and beyond, driven in part by the success of Constellation Software Group in Canada and the attractive recurring income streams.

Trade buyers increasingly look for larger businesses which can substantially ‘turn the dial’, so recognising the need to scale (and the help you may need to do so) remains at the core of the PE offering. If you want to fully benefit from the upside, you may need to stay with the business for a few years after sale, so worth considering early in your M&A journey.

If you are thinking about selling (however tentatively), then we do hope you can join us in June.
