Time for a Break
Insights by Robert Fiske.
I’m delighted to report that our first in-person seminar for some time was a resounding success.
It is reassuring to know that there is still a tangible energy around such a gathering. Virtual works – we get that – but there is still something very human about coming together.
We had a great line-up of guest speakers: highly experienced M&A lawyer, Duncan Walker from Michelmores LLP who discussed some of the main legal pitfalls to avoid during a sales process; Richard Shuker, the former owner of a tech business sold by Prism who talked of his first-hand experience of the wider process; and Karthik Dasari of Tern Capital who gave an inciteful presentation from the perspective of a PE buyer. From the feedback received, the event was universally regarded as very worthwhile.
We are planning to run another seminar in October and really recommend that you take the opportunity to participate. I don’t think we have ever had an owner-manager not believe that our events were time well spent – and we have done more than 60 now! See details of the recent seminar here and please do let us know if you are interested in the next one.
Conscious too, as summer is in full swing, that many of you will be taking some time off over the next couple of months. This is a really good opportunity to reflect on whether your business is still delivering for you – and if not, why not? Taking extended time away also allows you to see if your senior management can successfully run the business without you. On your return, if you would welcome a sounding board and some advice on your next steps, just book a 1-to-1 Chat with us here.
Finally, I am very pleased that Investment Quorum, the wealth management firm, have written an interesting article about navigating Inheritance Tax. With the imminent changes at No. 10, we are especially conscious of the uncertain tax environment and this article explores the investment in qualifying unquoted investments as a means of attracting relief.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
